WordPress 2.7 called Coltrane
After was released 2.7RC1 build at December 1st, I wasn’t hurry to take it. WordPress wasn’t strongly pushing It as well. But soon were released 2.7RC2 and the final stabile 2.7 called “Coltrane”. So it’s time for the upgrade indeed. I’m still surprised how fast working the developing group as so little time is passed since 2.6 release.
I’m glad that my theme is based on the default WP theme and WP widgets. All tweaks that I need are handled by the theme file functions.php and few simple plugins, so I making upgrade without any fear it may break anything in the blog appearance. The upgrade passed smoothly. Everything was as I expected.
Steps for upgrading were based on readme file. First I deleted wp-admin directory and uploaded new one. Then uploaded new wp-includes directory renamed as wp-includes-new, then old directory renamed to wp-includes-old and wp-includes-new renamed to wp-includes. Then uploaded the root files, deleted wp-includes-old directory and activated the upgrade script.
I found that wp-config file got new parameter NONCE_KEY so added it as well.
All things that came with the new Coltrane version is about the WP backend – administration panel/dashboard. It has got absolutely new appearance fashion, better ergonomics/usability and action. More about that got there and view the film.
Warning – I know some themes may be broken after the upgrade. Suggest test it locally or check it in your theme author’s home page.
