New 2010 Mac Book Air – Flash Sotrage out of SSD
Today I looked at the new MacBook Air that was unvield in October 27, 2010. Wow – Apple still finds way how to surprise their customers. As you know, the ancestor was using already flash memory technology that was enclosed into form of normal 2.5’ size HDD that is known as SSD – solid state drive. Externally SSD looks as HDD but inside using solid state memory instead of rotating parts. Using Flash Memory.
The new MacBook Air comes with flash memory that is not enclosed into HDD enclosure. This let Apple to save 90% versus HDD form. It just few little FLASH memory chips:
The space saved by this new approach for putting memory let not even make thinner laptop, but gave more space for batteries as well. So now it holds up to 7 hours and has up to 30 days of standby time. Not much? Don’t forget about the astonishing performance and instant responsiveness! The new Air comes with twice faster CPU comparing with its ancestor and now may do everything what does the Pro and better (see the videos bellow).
So the Air is faster, more reliable, lighter and smaller. It also has new multi-touch track pad that is more comfortable and has more nice features to work with.
Now what is disappointing about the new one laptop? Not much. But I cannot understand the reason why Apple still puts USB 2.0 instead of USB 3.0 and BlueTooth 2.1 instead of the BlueTooth 3.0. This is what I wanted to have buying the modern PC. I’m still missing these features on the most modern smart phones too (HTC or iPhones).
Anyway it’s light, reliable and powerful. And there is available not only 11.6 inch size laptop but 13.3 inch size too. Prises available from $999 to $1599.
